Organization and Leadership
Every member of Circular Congregational Church is engaged in ministry. Each uses his or her talents to serve others, build up the whole church community, and work for justice and human dignity in all aspects of life.
Our congregation holds membership in the United Church of Christ and ecumenical partnership with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We support the national and international ministries of both denominations and look for the unity of the whole Christian Church.
The congregation as a whole comes together in January for an Annual Meeting. At this meeting we share a potluck supper, elect officers, hear reports, adopt a budget, and transact other business. Additional meetings of the congregation may be called as needed to transact critical business of the Church.
The regular operational business of Circular Church is conducted by the Church Council. Our Constitution describes how Council members are elected from the membership of Circular Church and vested with responsibility for the direction and implementation of the ministries of the Church. To see recent minutes of Council meetings and reports from called congregational meetings and Annual Meetings, please contact the church office at circularchurch@bellsouth.net for access instructions.
The ministries of Circular Church are directly accomplished by staff members and by church members, lay leaders, and staff members working together in Mission Groups, which are volunteer committees organized to coordinate the church’s programs. Mission Groups are composed of smaller units known as Ministry Teams that work to implement the programs. Circular believes that a Ministry Team should be a primary affiliation for each member and a place for action, service, and personal growth.
Our Mission Group and Ministry Team structure and leadership is fluid – to learn about our currently active groups and their leaders, review the two pages of our 2012-2013 Time & Talent brochure. We encourage each member and friend of Circular to contact a Mission Group leader and volunteer his or her time and talents to contribute to the work of the Church.
Finally, there are several standing committees and ad hoc committees of Council that exist to accomplish specific tasks necessary for the functioning of the Church, such as evaluating staff members or making decisions about profit and non-profit uses of our facilities. The standing committees are Nominating Committee, Personnel Committee, Grievance Committee, Mission Fund Committee, and Facilities Use Oversight Committee.
